Introduction (1 lesson)
This section explains details of the Learning
Quest and introduces the broad theme of self-image.
Classifying (1 lesson)
This section gets students to explore and
identify a variety of foods and physical
activities. Students classify foods into
the 5 Fun Ways categories using an online
interactive tool and also a classroom exercise.
Students and or teacher may need to bring
in a range of food items and develop a class
physical activity list to do this task.
Students can also explore ways to achieve
a greater variety of physical activity.
See the Various
Physical Activity Ideas link.
Influences (2 lessons)
In this section of the Learning Quest students
investigate influences on eating, meal patterns
and physical activity.
Not everyone follows the same eating, meal
and physical activity patterns. There are
many factors that influence how, when and
what people eat and do physically.
Students need to explore who and what
have strong influences on their eating
and physical
activity patterns. Here are some influences
to get you started. However you should
encourage
your students to come up with their own
influences.

What Makes Me Me! (4 lessons)
Students will be working on a Great Things
About Me Record individually in this section
of the Learning Quest but will need to share
some parts to a larger group and maybe at
times with the class. You should let the
students know before they start this task
that they will need to share their Great
Things About Me Record. We also encourage
students to share their Great Things About
Me Record with their family.
In the Great Things About Me Record students
will be researching their own body features
and information about them by recording
all the interesting facts and information.
Such as:
 |
 |

Physical Activity Plan (3 lessons)
This part of the Learning Quest helps teach
students about the importance of variety
regarding physical activity. To encourage
people to be active everyday it is important
to consider the many different ways to be
active. After all, "Variety is the
spice of life"! Click
here to learn more about the benefits
of participating in a variety of activities.
Students will be looking at the importance
and role of physical education in developing
health through a variety of physical activities.
To assist in planning for variety for their
own physical education classes, students
will work in groups of 4 or 5 to design
and present a flyer highlighting a physical
activity focusing on one or more of the
following areas:
 |
 |
Dance |
| |
 |
Games |
| |
 |
Fitness |
| |
 |
Movement skills |
Help your students to consider the following:
 |
 |
What is the activity? |
| |
 |
How is it performed or played? |
| |
 |
Where it is to be conducted - eg:
on the oval, on a tennis court, can
it be played outside of the school
such as at the beach or park? |
| |
 |
Equipment needed |
| |
 |
Are there any safety rules? |
| |
 |
Does it allow all students to participate? |
The relevance of this particular task is
for students to look at physical education
through the variety of physical activities
it can offer, and to begin to consider planning
for variety. The activities students develop
are suggested ideas, and if they are chosen
to be included as part of the PE lesson
it is still important for students to be
involved in warm up, skill development and
cool down sections.

attached information on radical revolving
circuit).
Expert for a Day (4 lessons)(1 lesson
for the presentation)
This part of the Learning Quest is where
students take on a role through a scenario.
Scenarios may be a new word / activity for
the students. You may need to explain what
a scenario is or act out a scenario using
a familiar concept. How students work in
this task is up to you. However it is suggested
to use the method 1, 2, 4. This means start
the task individually (1), then share the
research, findings and recommendations with
one other person (2). Finish with sharing
further and look into the task with a different
perspective (as themselves) and share with
another pair thus (4).
Through the scenarios, students will investigate
healthy body image. Your role in this is
very important. However it is also important
that students reflect on themselves and
their own body image and how important variety
is in food and physical activities. The
main message is that we are all different
and we should be proud of what we have.
What have I discovered? (1 lesson)
The Evaluation is an opportunity for both
the teacher and student to reflect on the
learning from the You, Me, Variety Learning
Quest. If only part of the Learning Quest
was completed then the Assessment
rubric will need to be altered to suit
your class. Teachers need to decide if
they
will use symbols or words to reflect the
categories of the Rubrics. Teachers also
need to decide
if the rubric or part of the rubric is
self, peer or teacher assessed.
Teacher's Notes
The teaching notes targets information for
the teacher.
