  The learning areas are integrated throughout the ‘New Ways News’ Learning Quest.

The following ideas and activities may assist in addressing learning outcomes within these key learning areas:

Health and PE - Importance of new things in food and physical activities. Also build up a good concept of what is a healthy lifestyle and what is needed to achieve this. Develop co-operative group skills in food and physical activity preparation.

Society and Environment - Understanding on how the news is created, the types of news and where certain foods and sports come from.

Language Arts / English - Creation of a news story. Getting key messages across to an audience. Analysis an article. Keeping a Learning Log.

Art/Design - Creation of the news, display of articles, photos/graphics, design and layout of the news. Design and make a poster of a main article to display around the school eg. Canteen, resource centre, class rooms etc.

Other skills learnt or developed from doing the New Things News Learning Quest include:

Researching, planning, classifying information, drafting, editing, publishing, celebrating, composing, investigating, sharing, working in small teams, pairs and as a class, working individually, interpreting, interviewing, recording, evaluating, drawing conclusions, analysing, using technology to record thoughts, using email to communicate with teacher and parents, using the Internet to support research and learning of new ways of getting involved.
