Introduction
In New Things, you will research new
physical activity, food and new ways to get
involved.
It is important to build up a good understanding
and knowledge of what new things are and
possible new ways to get involved in sport,
activity and food.
You will be using a Learning
Log to help
keep a record of your thoughts, ideas and
learning about New Things. You can either
do this on the computer and email regularly
to your teacher and parents or download
the learning log and update this on a regular
basis. Add diagrams, thoughts, pictures,
photos, ideas, lists etc. Keep your notes
brief.
Write
down in your New Things Learning Log
prior to any research:
 |
 |
What you think makes
a healthy lifestyle? |
| |
 |
What do new things in
food and activity mean to you? |
| |
 |
How might new things
help you to achieve a healthy, active
lifestyle? |

Research
Now start your research. Remember to
keep key points and record where you find useful
information
as you may need to return to the site to find
out further information when you come to write
your article. Copy and paste the web addresses
(URLs) into an electronic bibliography. This
could be a word document as part of your Learning
Log.
You are required to find out:
 |
 |
Where do different sports
and activities come from? Investigate
and find two (2) activities that are
new for you and find out more about them.
Hint: Think about different sports or
activities from different countries
|
| |
 |
Find two (2) things that
are new to you in food and physical activity
that you come across in your research
|
| |
 |
Find out five (5) things
that are important to have a healthy,
active lifestyle |
Record these in your Learning Log with reference
to where you found the information and why
you think it is important to try new things.

Investigate
Where does food come from?
Brainstorm
a list of where you think different foods come
from? Use the template and work
with one other person to build up your ideas.
Your teacher will help you form this group.
Try and think about where foods come from eg.
sea, earth, bush food, animal, plant and manufacturing.
Sea
may include such foods as: crabs, fish, mussels,
seaweed, crayfish, oysters, abalone
to name a few. Have you tried any of these
or are they new things?
If you need to investigate
foods, nutrition and physical activity to build
up your ideas
of new healthy ideas. Try the suggested weblinks.

Discussion
Share
what you found with one (1) other person.
Your teacher will suggest
how you
will form this pair.
Reflect on:
 |
 |
Did you find out about
a new food and physical activity? |
| |
 |
What were the foods
and physical activities? |
In
your New Things Learning Log write notes about
the differences, the similarities and
explain the new food and physical activity
examples.
