  Introduction

It is time to share your news story with others and create your own class news for the ‘New Ways News’. This is where your individual article becomes a part of the whole news. If you are limited with time you and your teacher may decide to make a focus newsletter on New Ways.

It is important to have a good idea of how a newspaper or news is made. This website may help if you are creating a newspaper.

  Preparation

You will plan out as a class, how you are going to develop the first ever publication of ‘The New Ways News’. Are you happy with the name of the News? Your class may decide to rename this news feature to reflect your own new ways message.

You will need to include and create such things as: a logo/style/font and develop an agreed design layout. Also how are you going to layout the articles? … Which article goes where? … Do you have enough articles? What are the feature articles? Do they reflect both new foods and new physical activities and crazes?

Your news should include:

Circulation details
  Cost
  Date of publication
  A banner
  A headline
  A lead story
  Different images at different sizes
  An advertisement
  An Index
  The agencies main messages

You could create a timeline with important tasks and dates to help your teams meet the deadlines.

An online timeline generator can be found at:

You may find that you need to split into smaller groups and work further on articles, stories, information, photos or graphics to fill the spaces. Your teacher will help you form these groups. Work as an editing team to put together the final touches on the ‘New Ways News’. Consider the overall design and layout. Don’t forget the importance of setting and sticking to deadlines!
