Lesson IdeasFun & Friends > Picnic in the Park

  Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate the ability to organise, communicate ideas and investigate
Appreciation of the importance of sharing food and activity with friends and family
Ability to select and use appropriate technology for personal planning

  Introduction

Your class will help organise and take part in a picnic that also includes family and friends. You will need to help your class plan where the picnic is to be held, what food will be provided, what games will be played and what help and equipment they will need to prepare and get to the Picnic in the Park. They will think about the different foods people like to eat, remembering that not everyone likes to eat the same things. It is important when students consider food and physical activity that they think about variety and healthy options in a social atmosphere. The picnic is the perfect opportunity to think about some fun physical activities.

  Learning Task

Begin with a big sheet of paper or software such as Inspiration® or Word to help plan this event
As individuals, small groups and then as a class ask students to consider the following:

Space and safety
Equipment needed?
Fun and friends
Where the picnic will be held?
Who will supply or make the food?
When will it take place?
How will the class get to the park?
How much will it cost and who will pay?
Help that is needed?
What food is needed?
What fun games can be played?

Reflect on this as a class and discuss the different options for the picnic. Students may like to invite parents or community members to join the picnic. Download student activity sheet below.
